It is helpful and easy enough to have everyone begin Walking together in a group. Here are some things to consider for the Walk Event to have the biggest impact:

  • Keep Walkers together. This is visually more stunning and more powerful. It also helps Walkers talk with one another, chant with one another and build enthusiasm with one another.
  • Head the Walk with a banner. This announces the Walk and serves as a boundary to keep Walkers together. Walk at a pace that is not too fast nor too slow so that Walkers will be energetic following.
  • Follow the banner heading the Walk with a drumline. Drumlines are fun, noisy and provide a pace for the Walk.
  • Have someone at the tail of the Walk so slower Walkers won't feel abandoned or "less than" when they discover that walking in high heels is really hard going!
